Frequently Asked Questions

What is Acupuncture?

Originating in China acupuncture is a method of healing which has been practised in Asian countries for thousands of years.  More recently acupuncture has grown in popularity in the United States as a holistic approach to the maintenance of health and wellness as well as the management of illness.  It is based on the natural laws influencing the movement of energy in the body and in nature.  This energy, or "life force" is called Ch'i and it flows through the body in channels, known as meridians, just like rivers flow through the earth.  Health is promoted when the Ch'i in the body is full and moving smoothly.  Illness begins when the Ch'i is blocked, or stuck and is restricted in its flow.. Acupuncture uses very thin sterile needles to access the Ch'i and moderate its flow. Acupuncture is concerned with the whole person and addresses the person's issues at many levels of functioning, as it simultaneously affects the mind, the body and the spirit.
